Painting Timelapse: "A Study in Values" by Mark J. Allen

I have a handful of small 5 x 7 watercolor panels in my studio, and I wanted to create something simple on one of them, without too much detail, so I painted a small portrait in gouache, in which I got to play around with tonal values - light and shadow - the things that make a subject look three dimensional. Because it's a small painting, it's a quick one.
