Nintendo Doubles Down on Price Gouging As Switch 2 Pre Orders Go Live

Nintendo announced Switch 2 Pre Orders for North America will be going live April 24th. The console and Mario Kart bundle remain at the announced price of $450 and $500, respectively, but due to the "economic climate," all the accessories have received a non inconsequential price hike, effectively making this the priciest console launch in history.

Games for the system have been priced at a premium. Donkey Kong Bananza will be confirmed as the standard $70 release and Mario Kart World will be an $80 release, or $110 if you are in Canada.

All of that said, this will still sell out instantly. Nintendo will make money, hand over fist for the first few months, but the long term viability remains uncertain. Given it's such an underpowered console, will there be enough value for customers currently underwhelmed by the games or currently on the fence? Time will tell.
