Nothing in Life is Free… Except Kindness

The idea you need to be famous in order to “make it” is a fallacy.

You don’t need fame, you need supporters. A community of people who enjoy your art, and want to be a part of it in some way, shape, or form.

Mostly that just means they consume what you have to offer.

If you gain enough support, you can make a living.

I’m not there, (hopefully) yet, but I do have a few core people who pop up regularly, and I appreciate that.

The idea they take a moment of their day to see what nonsense I have to spew means a lot to me.

The fact they share their thoughts, whether they agree or disagree with any take I have is fantastic.

Feedback is always good.

So, I want to maintain these relationships, not take advantage of them.

Which is why I don’t understand the idea of paid subscriptions.

“Hey, that thing I give you? Yeah, I’m gonna start charging you for it.”

Those are the actions of a dealer, and I know for a fact that what I do doesn’t create any addiction.

But, that said, I have a mortgage.

I have a couple kids I’d like to send to college, because God knows I want them to walk a better path than I did.

Which means I offer product.

To me, that’s less icky than asking people to pay for a subscription.

It’s a way of offering people something that, if they buy it, they get something in return.

A tangible, physical something.

Like a t-shirt.

A humorous, comfortable, t-shirt.
