Green - Trees Touched with Snow

"Green" is the 4th track written for "Reading the Rainbows," a podcast created by Heather Looy of The King's University. In writing these tracks I attempted to express the essence of our perception of colour in the form of sound. We have a profound tendency to attach imagery to sound, in order to suit the subject matter of "Reading the Rainbows" I wanted to see if I could represent the spectrum of colour through musical pathos. This was a process of completely intuitive experimentation, I don't even remember how I went about writing most of the tracks.

When producing these tracks in university, I had almost no experience using a DAW. I had never truly produced any music, nor had I written for a podcast context before. Despite this, I am very happy with how these turned out, especially as a result of self taught experimentation. In the case of "Green" I used Modality to express the depth of this colour. In the later half of my years at university, I had began the process of developing a theory of "Psychoharmonic Analysis" which rationalizes and quantizes the emotional character of musical pathos. It is due to what I learned from this investigation that I used Aeolian to represent green. Aeolian expresses a character that is moderately dark, stable and distorted. I felt this suited the colour Green, but you can be the judge of that.

For those interested in understanding musical expression empirically as well as systematic musicology in general, I invite you to subscribe. When the development of my theories are perfected, I will be making loads of videos laying out my findings.
