On April 19, 2025, Beijing’s Yizhuang Half-Marathon made history as the world’s first human-humanoid half-marathon, where 21 Chinese-made humanoid robots, including UBTech’s Tiangong Ultra, raced alongside thousands of human runners over a 21km course with uneven surfaces and slopes. Tiangong Ultra, developed with the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, finished in 2 hours 40 minutes, requiring three battery swaps, while only 6 of the 21 robots completed the race due to falls and overheating. This event, backed by China’s push for a 16.7 billion yuan humanoid market by 2025, showcased advanced AI and robotics, highlighting China’s rapid progress in the global tech race, though the robots’ time doubled that of human winners.
