The new live-action version of Snow White, starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, has sparked controversy not only for its narrative and aesthetic changes but also for its significant environmental impact. According to financial reports released by Disney, the production of the film in the UK generated 3,153 tons of CO2 equivalent, even surpassing Fast & Furious 10, known for its high-intensity car chase scenes.

This level of emissions has raised concerns, especially considering that since 2019, film productions in the UK are required to report their environmental impact. In this context, Snow White ranks among the most polluting Disney productions, alongside The Little Mermaid, which produced 5,127 tons of CO₂. Together, both films emitted more greenhouse gases than the airports of Birmingham and Luton in 2023-2024.

The primary cause of these emissions is attributed to the intensive use of portable generators powered by fossil fuels during outdoor shoots. Despite efforts to employ sustainable solutions, such as batteries and hybrid generators, these were not enough to mitigate the environmental impact of the production.

This situation raises questions about the consistency between the ecological message promoted by the film and the actual production practices. While the movie aims to convey values of connection with nature and harmony with animals, its carbon footprint contradicts these principles, sparking a debate on environmental responsibility in the film industry.

In this video, we take an in-depth look at the environmental impact of Snow White, exploring the reasons behind its high CO₂ emissions and discussing the broader implications of this issue in the context of sustainability in cinema.
