Snow white
Snow White is a classic fairy tale that’s been told in many forms over the centuries. The most well-known version is the one by the Brothers Grimm, and it was famously adapted by Disney in 1937 as the first-ever full-length animated feature film.
Here's a quick breakdown of the story:
Plot Summary:
Snow White is a beautiful young princess with skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood, and hair as black as ebony. Her stepmother, the Evil Queen, becomes jealous of Snow White’s beauty. When the Queen's magical mirror tells her that Snow White is now the fairest in the land, she orders a huntsman to kill her.
The huntsman can't go through with it and lets Snow White escape into the forest, where she finds refuge with seven dwarfs. The Queen discovers Snow White is still alive and tries to kill her herself—three times, using a tight corset, a poisoned comb, and finally a poisoned apple.
Snow White falls into a deep, death-like sleep after biting the apple. She's placed in a glass coffin. Eventually, a prince finds her, and depending on the version, either kisses her or jostles the apple from her throat. She awakens, and they live happily ever after.
Themes:
Jealousy and vanity
Innocence and purity
Good vs. evil
The power of love

The new live-action SNOW WHITE has been banned in Lebanon due to the presence of Israeli actress Gal Gadot, marking another controversy attached to the movie.
Lebanon has boycotted the actress due to her Israeli heritage and support of the country amid the ongoing war. Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen in the movie, was born in Israel and was also a member of the Israel Defense Forces.
The Lebanon newspaper An-Nahar said that Lebanon’s Interior Minister Ahmad Hajjar proposed the ban against the actress and her films.
Gabot has been very vocal condemning the events of Oct. 7, 2023, on her social media. She previously said, “Never did I imagine that on the streets of the United States, and different cities around the world, we would see people not condemning Hamas, but celebrating, justifying and cheering on a massacre of Jews.”
This past March, Gadot received an award from the Anti-Defamation League for her work in standing up for the Jewish people and standing against antisemitism.
In a post to Instagram, she shared, “Deeply honored to receive this award from the ADL. This moment is about all of us standing together, proud, strong, and refusing to be silent in the face of antisemitism. October 7 was a wake-up call, but it also reminded us of our resilience and unbreakable bond.”
She concluded by encouraging people to love on another.
“We must continue to educate, share our stories, and stand up against hate—because love will always be stronger.🎗️”
Director Marc Webb and Disney's live-action remake of Snow White have brought the Brothers Grimm's classic story back into the spotlight. 2025's Snow White is one of the many adaptations of the original fairy tale, which was published in 1812. While Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is arguably the most popular cinematic adaptation, several other film versions of the Brothers Grimm's fairy tale made by different studios have also been successful in theaters.
From live-action to animation, the story of Snow White has been presented in various forms of media, with varying tones and varying levels of success at the box office. Although many adaptations have tried to reinvent the tale of Snow White for more modern audiences over the years, few have done quite as well financially as Disney's revolutionary 1937 film. Produced in South Korea, this animated movie follows a group of princes who are turned into green-skinned dwarfs by a princess they assume to be a witch, forcing them to find Snow White, aka "Red Shoes," so she can help them undo the curse. As this film tries to reinvigorate an old fairy tale for younger, modern audiences, Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarves attempts to upend preconceived notions of beauty through its titular characters.
While it received an English dub to reach international audiences, this $20 million movie supposedly flopped after only making $9.7 million in theaters (via Koimoi). The film was also probably hurt by its controversial marketing, which was accused of fat-shaming its characters and ironically undermining its more progressive message.
