CNS vs Muscle Hypertrophy

Not all strength training is created equal—and knowing the difference between CNS-focused training and hypertrophy training can change how you perform in combat sports.

CNS (Central Nervous System) training targets your body’s ability to recruit maximum force and speed. Think: heavy lifts, low reps, long rest. It’s all about neural efficiency and power output—perfect for explosive takedowns and KO punches.

Hypertrophy training, on the other hand, focuses on muscle growth. Moderate weight, higher reps, short rest. It builds muscle mass and joint support, but doesn’t directly improve power or speed.

Both have a place—but if you’re a fighter, prioritize CNS work to sharpen performance, and use hypertrophy work to build durability.
