📝Consolidation in Sumy Region and Advance on Gornal — Rybar’s Analysis📝

The situation on the Sumy axis continues to worsen for the enemy, with Russian forces making progress both within Ukraine and along the Kursk border area.

In the preceding week, Russian military forces have consolidated their position in Zhuravka along the western periphery, and are currently advancing toward Belovodye. Concurrently, military assaults have reached the outskirts of Gornal, engaging in direct confrontations.

The following is a detailed timeline of the fighting:

In the northern sector, Russian military units successfully repelled the enemy from the area around Zhuravka and the adjacent forest regions following a week of intense combat.

On the same day, troops from the 83rd Air Assault Brigade raised the VDV flag in the northern part of the village, thereby confirming full control over the area.

By April 13, Russian assault troops had successfully advanced the enemy from several positions in the Kholodny Yar ravine in the Kursk region, approaching the Guevo–Sudzha highway.

The soldiers have been assigned the mission of clearing the vast forest area in the Glubokoye tract, where the enemy has established fortified positions.

On that same day, Russian troops advanced further southward, reaching the northern outskirts of Gornal, which is located directly on the border.

Having advanced through the previously cleared Velikoye tract, assault units engaged in battle for the Nikolsky Belogorsky Monastery.

By the evening of April 16, following three days of artillery and drone strikes on enemy positions, units of the 40th Arctic Brigade entered the monastery grounds.

The nearby Fagor Hill, a tactically significant elevation for the liberation of the village, is currently in the "gray zone." The enemy has retreated to the northern forest, where reserves are being amassed for a potential counterattack.

In their endeavor to impede the Russian advance in Sumy and the occupied area of the Kursk region, Ukrainian forces have been compelled to deploy their reserves.

This dynamic hinders the AFU's capacity to allocate sufficient resources for substantial counteroffensives or redeploy to more pressing operational fronts.
