The IDF has taken control of the Morag Corridor, a crucial buffer zone cutting off Rafah from the rest of the Gaza Strip, in an effort to halt weapons smuggling from Egypt. According to IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, smuggling operations across the Egypt-Gaza border are funding Hamas and other terror groups, generating millions in illicit revenue.

Despite this strategic gain, Zamir admitted the IDF cannot fully take control of Gaza due to a severe troop shortage, worsened by Israel's need to deploy forces on multiple fronts and the ultra-Orthodox community’s ongoing refusal to serve. The situation underscores a growing internal crisis within Israel’s military readiness.
