Gen 35:3 - Jacob Remembers His Vow To God
In Jacob's distress, he made a vow to God, see Gen 28:20-22. God kept His own part of the covenant by seeing Jacob through his ordeals, but it would appear that Jacob almost forgot his vow to God. God is a covenant keeper, He reminds Jacob of the fulfilment of his vow to return to Bethel and build a house for God to propagate the goodness of God. Finally Jacob remembers to fulfil his vow and commanded his family to return to God. It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfil it, see Eccl 5:5
