In this episode of Lumumba's Africa, Professor P.L.O. Lumumba reflects on the legacy of Gamal Abdel Nasser – the iconic Egyptian leader who transformed his country and left a profound mark on the Arab world. A revolutionary at heart, Nasser led the 1952 uprising that toppled King Farouk and launched sweeping reforms, from nationalizing the Suez Canal to building the Aswan High Dam.
But Nasser did more than challenge colonial powers – he reshaped the political order of the Middle East. As Professor Lumumba explains, even after Egypt’s devastating loss in the 1967 war with Israel, Nasser retained the trust of his people. For millions, he remains a powerful symbol of Arab unity and resistance.
