The first electric can opener I bought was useless, cheaply made, lightweight and struggled to open a can of beans with its' feeble 50w motor. I needed to find something better.

This one, the CAP70, from Kenwood, is an improvement. Weighting at 1.3Kg is is a bit heavier and more substantial although at 10 x 10 x 22.5 cm it is about the same size. I paid around £32 for it, which although not too expensive is rather more than the £18 I paid for the predecessor.

In the box, I received the can opener itself, the removable blade assembly and a large but poorly printed user guide. Build quality all seems fine for the price with nothing looking likely to fail or fall off anytime soon. It comes with a countertop length hard wired cable with a handy opening in the rear of the unit for any excess cable.

The blade assembly, metal with a plastic covering, clicks easily into place at the top of the can opener. Then plug in and you should be ready to go.

I have to confess that I did struggle a bit at first with making it work, there is a specific technique in aligning the can to the cutting blade, but after a few tries it got easier. However, once working the 70w motor opened a standard can of beans quickly and easily, unlike the cheaper model which creaked and groaned as the can rotated.

I did not test the bottle opener but the knife sharpener appeared to work well and I have no reason to doubt that it too will work as well as can be expected.

This is a nice enough machine, it gets the job done without making a great fuss about it. I am sure there are better made and more attractive rivals out and this one is by no means the worst.
