Cindy Young, a 68-year-old retired woman from Bristol, New Hampshire, attended the "Stop the Steal" rally at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, to make her voice heard about her concerns over the past election. She believes the election was fraudulent and the certification process of the electors needed to be debated and reviewed. Cindy was present at the ellipse to hear the President's speech and had no other intentions that day. She experienced confusion and agitation from the Capitol police and Metro police who launched munitions into the crowd. Cindy entered the Capitol and was inside for approximately 26 minutes, walking through open doors and never being approached or asked to leave. She declined a plea deal offered by her public defenders and maintained her innocence, facing potential incarceration. Cindy was found guilty by a jury and sentenced to 4 months incarceration followed by 2 months home detention, with $4,750 in fines and court costs. She was surveilled by the FBI since January 13, 2021, and remained on pretrial restrictions until her pardon. Cindy's life has been severely impacted, with her small business closing due to the potential of incarceration, and she is now facing financial ruin. She hopes for restorative justice and financial restitution in the future.
