The Bible is a history book of God's words. The old testament has lot's of information BUT the New Testament is the New Instructions and word from God.

WHY THE DATE FOR CHRISTMAS DAY IS ESSENTIALLY SCRIPTURAL

Originally, the date of Birth of Jesus was derived from Scripture, mostly using the details given in Luke Chapter 1.

Note: There was no "zeroth" year, i.e. no "year 0" or "0 AD". There was 1 BC, and then there was 1 AD, with nothing in between.

In a nutshell, Saint John the Baptist was conceived on 23 September, 1 BC, born on 24 June, 1 AD, and he was six months older than Jesus. The Bible does not give an exact date for Jesus' Birth, only an approximate one.

The Scriptural Basis for the Date of Jesus' Birth

In Luke 1, an angel appears to Zechariah while he is performing his priestly duties for Yom Kippur, i.e. on 23 Sep, 1 BC. Luke 1:13 says: "But the angel said to him: 'Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John' …".

270 days later, Saint John the Baptist was born, on 24 June, 1 AD. Throughout history, the feast of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist has always been celebrated on 24 June.

Luke 1:36 says that, at the time of the Annunciation and Incarnation (today officially dated to 25 March, 1 AD), Saint Elizabeth was already in her "sixth month".

So, the early Christians took this to mean that Saint John the Baptist was six months older than Jesus and, very early on, they concluded that the date of Jesus' birth was roughly 23-25 Dec, 1 AD.

Bishop Irenaeus (c. 130-202 AD) was the Greek bishop who finalized the date of the Annunciation as 25 March, 1 AD. After this finalization, the date of Jesus' Nativity was set to exactly 9 months later, i.e. 25 December, 1 AD.

Overall, the early Christians derived the date of Jesus' Birth (today officially 25 December, 1 AD) from Scripture. They did not "copy astrotheology" or "randomly invent" the date, as many folks have falsely claimed.
