Apatros Review Ep-0148: Quest For Saddam [PC Game, 2003]

AR-0148: One of the most famous American meme games of the 2000s, this was a remake of the sequel ["Quest For Hussein"] to a meme shooter designed to show support in the fight against terrorism ["Quest For Al Qaeda"]. Both the original games were based on the cult 1990s FPS game engine The Build Engine and the developer, Jesse Petrilla, was forced to remake the sequel to avoid getting into legal strife due to his distribution methods.

Redesigned onto a new proprietary engine called The Torque Engine, "Quest For Saddam" is essentially identical in basic content and level design to "Quest For Hussein" with only the levels simplified a fair bit. The weapons have been rejigged from the Build Engine versions and while the enemies here no longer have the insta-shot reaction of their Build Engine predecessors, they are also dumber to the point you need to be awfully close to their field of vision for them to notice you farting in their presence.

An easy game for anyone even remotely experienced in FPS gaming, this can be beaten in the span of your typical lunch break, but that actually works against the game if you're a serious gamer wanting a true challenge.

My Grade: D [Bad]
