Uncle Amos was tragically killed during the war that ousted President Idi Amin. One of his girlfriends, pregnant at the time, later abandoned their child, James, at our home. My parents raised James as their own, as he never had the chance to know his biological parents. Uncle Amos, my mother's youngest sibling, was adopted by my parents and raised as their child. He became a Medical Assistant and served in Masaka during the war. His life was cut short by Amin’s fleeing soldiers, who burned him alive in a brutal act of vengeance. This loss deeply impacted our family and highlights the harsh realities of Uganda's tumultuous history. Reflecting on this past underscores the importance of remembering our history to understand and shape our future.
