The red-lipped batfish (Ogcocephalus darwini) is one of the ocean’s weirdest-looking creatures. Found primarily around the Galápagos Islands and off the coast of Peru, this fish is known for its bright red lips (which look like it's wearing lipstick), flattened body, and leg-like pectoral fins that it uses to "walk" along the sea floor.

Here are a few fun facts:

Terrible swimmer: Despite being a fish, it's a pretty bad swimmer. It walks more than it swims using its modified fins.

Lure on its head: Like anglerfish, it has a little lure (called an illicium) on its head to attract prey, though it’s less prominent.

Diet: It feeds on small fish, crustaceans, and other small invertebrates.

Depth: Usually found at depths of 10 to 250 feet.
