In a bizarre and controversial claim, a 128-year-old man in Salta, Argentina, has publicly stated that he is Adolf Hitler, the infamous Nazi leader thought to have died in 1945. The man, living under the name Herman Guntherberg, asserts that he fled to Argentina using a fake Gestapo-issued passport and remained in hiding for over 70 years. He said he decided to reveal his identity after Israel ended its hunt for Nazi war criminals in 2016. Guntherberg plans to publish an autobiography to “restore” his image, claiming he has been misunderstood because Germany lost the war. His wife, however, believes his claim is a delusion stemming from Alzheimer’s, as he only began mentioning Hitler two years ago. The announcement followed the discovery of a large Nazi memorabilia stash in Buenos Aires, renewing conspiracy theories that Nazis escaped to South America after World War II. DNA tests on a skull fragment once thought to be Hitler's have also cast doubt on the official suicide narrative.
