The Burden of Light

[Verse 1 – Whispered then sung]
In the realm where the twilight mourns,
Where ivy strangles stone,
He rose beneath the mourning thorns—
A beast of flesh and bone.

No crown adorned his withered shell,
No choir sang his name.
But the sun—ensnared in ancient spell—
Was bound to him by flame.

[Chorus]
He bears the burden of light,
Through catacombs of endless night.
A crawling wraith on cursed track—
He carries the sun on his back.
Cloaked in silence, cloaked in fate,
He walks alone… but radiates.

[Verse 2]
The ghosts of kings, the daughters of dust,
Would beckon from the deep.
With lips like ash and hearts of rust,
They called him from his sleep.

But onward through the fen he crept,
A sentinel of fire,
Though every step, in shadows kept,
Pulled him through the mire.

[Chorus]
He bears the burden of light,
A prisoner of burning rite.
Through grave and glade, no soul to track—
He carries the sun on his back.
The winds may scream, the heavens crack—
Still he holds the dawn…
at his back.

[Bridge – Slow, chanting, with rising strings]
“Why do you shine, old beast of sorrow?”
“Why not lay the sun down low?”
But he replies with no tomorrow,
“I burn… so others glow.”

[Final Chorus – Towering, hymnal, funereal majesty]
He bears the burden of light,
In defiance of the dying night.
Though doom may press, and darkness call—
He climbs, he crawls, he bears it all.
A god in chains, a love intact…
He carries the sun…
on his back.

[Outro – fading organ and low strings]
He carries the sun…
…on his back…
