Tom recounted his experience during a protest at the Capitol, which escalated into a chaotic situation. Initially, he was peacefully walking around, but later, he was thrown to the ground, sprayed with mace, and cuffed by police. After washing his eyes, he was escorted around the building and later arrested with a group of others. He was then transported to a jail cell where he was left for several hours with the cell door open.
