Assassins et Voleurs is a 1956 French Film, written and directed by Sacha Guitry. Audio in French with subtitles in; English, Russian and French (click on CC for subtitles).

Philippe Dartois, a wealthy, idle man and dandyish thief, surprises a burglar, Albert Lecagneux, in his home and asks him to help him kill himself in exchange for a sum of money. In flashback, Philippe recounts the events that led up to this critical and anxious moment...

This penultimate film by Sacha Guitry is also an opportunity for its director to reconnect with his first love: caustic comedy. The arrest and imprisonment of Albert Lecagneux in place of the real culprit, Philippe Dartois, is an obvious allusion to his arrest after the Second World War. The film unfolds rigorously, right up to its cynical final denouement. For the first time, Guitry is completely absent from his film: not only does he not act, but the voice-over commentary is provided by Jean Poiret.
