Going over a Chinese Type 53 chest rig for their type 53 rifle, a copy of the Russian M44 Mosin Nagant - used by the Chinese military and also issued out to North Vietnamese forces. These were to be issued with the Chinese Type 53, but were produced for many years past the adaptation of other, superior small arms such as the SKS or Type 56 AKs.

The type 53 chest rig contains ten pouches with each pouch holding two stripper clips. Each stripper clip is loaded with five rounds of 7.62x54R, leading to a total loadout of 100 rounds.

This is the first iteration in the family of chest rigs which would follow, leading directly into the Type 56 chest rigs.

In the video I show the chest rig in more detail as well as identify how you can date your own chest rig, if you happen to have one.

This is chest rig is a more uncommon piece of military surplus on the American market, but it can be found at various places. It is an interesting piece of kit and history, though not as practical as other military surplus chest rigs that are out there.
