It may seem, because the United Kingdom and the English speaking writers of the last several centuries have dominated literature, that the islands that compose Britain and Ireland are some vast area. But, in actuality, they are small both in geographic terms and population, and were even more so centuries ago.
With that in mind, it's little wonder that Bram Stoker and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle were distant relations, and who actually wrote portions of a novel together prior to Dracula. But, they were, and they did on The Fate of Fenella.
As Sherlock Holmes became a world wide phenomenon, Stoker reached into the past and plucked out one of humanity's greatest fears to create a character to rival the world's greatest detective.
