Many states in the U.S. have either passed or pushing to pass stricter social media restrictions for minors. The social media laws may also indicate the acceleration to more widespread mandatory digital ID requirements for internet access, in order to more easily monitor and control the digital space of all users. As these laws increase privacy advocates have fears that personal freedoms will be violated, not to mention data theft as users information is compromised.
