Exercise Your Spiritual Position of Authority - Part 2

By Pastor Gary Wayne

Review: As a Christian, God has given us spiritual authority we can operate in.
What has charged my heart is the illustration we have in 1Chron. 28-29 where David is handing the baton to Solomon. And even though David is old and Solomon no longer lives under his roof, I believe David’s prayer over Solomon influenced him so when God asked Solomon what he wanted from God, Solomon knew to ask for wisdom.

You were hand-picked by God to have your family under your care.
I believe regardless the age of your kids; you have spiritual authority to pray God’s blessing over them.

Text: Numbers 6:22-27 Nehemiah 4:14

I believe our enemy has an agenda for you and your family.
Last week I talked about asking the Holy Spirit to help us take a look back at our family history and see if there have been recurring issues my past family has wrestled with that seems to be active in my life.

We are shaped by our family history.
Scripture teaches that the consequences of spiritual actions and decisions taken in one generation affect those who follow.

Ex 20:5 “…God visits the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations…”
The phrase “visits the iniquity” would be better translated, “tends to be repeated.”

“Pastor, I thought when I became a Christian and asked God to forgive me, all that was taken care of.” Yes and no. God forgives me of my sin, but I believe that wrong behavior: genetic, learned, and spiritually influenced can be handed down to me and my kids.

Two different illustrations in Scripture: Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Pattern of lying, favoritism, brother’s cut off from each other, poor marriage relationship.

David, Solomon and Rehoboam. Spiritual and moral compromise, sexual sins, unresolved conflict.

With these illustrations in scripture, I think I need to go before God and stand in for my previous family and ask God to forgive our sin, and break the enemy’s generational curse, or generational agenda against my family.

There were those in Scripture that understood their families and nation had sinned against God and so they stood and said, “God forgive us, for we have sinned.”
Neh.1:6-7 Dan.9:5

When they stood in their position of authority and repented, God listened and sent His blessings to restore lives.

When I talk about exercising your spiritual authority, I NEED to bring some caution and balance to our stand in authority.

Book: Needless Casualties of War - John Paul Jackson
Only exercise your godly authority where you have authority.
We can’t use our authority over areas we have no jurisdiction over.

There are areas the enemy has power over that God has not called me to get involved in.

For me to go into the enemy’s territory, and walk in pride, and swager because I have spiritual armor, is to open myself up to the enemy’s attacks.

Jude 1:9 Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"

If the enemy intrudes on my personal life I am licensed to do war.

Here is the strong direction of doing war from your position of authority I feel God emphasizing to us today.

God's blessing on is greater than the curse of the enemy.
A spiritual principal war – Rom.12:21 “Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good.”
Think in this principal - when you pray over your home, household, kids.
Use words of blessing rather than trying to attack the demons they face.

Don’t let your words about someone agree with our enemy – “the accuser of the brethren." – instead let my words bless and agree with Father.
Quote scripture over them.

Num. 6:22-27

We are called to focus on the light, not the darkness.
Spend more time taking with Jesus, then giving attention to the devil.

“In the name of Jesus, I bind any demonic spirit attacking my family, my home, and I command them to flee. Every spirit that is not of God must leave. Nothing evil or unclean can be this place.” "The Lord rebuke you!"

“I ask Your Holy Spirit to fill this place. Jesus, I invite your presence to dwell here, that you would send your angels to protect my family and my home.”
