Psalm 148
Amplified Bible
The Whole Creation Invoked to Praise the Lord.

148 Praise the Lord!

Praise the Lord from the heavens;
Praise Him in the heights!

2
Praise Him, all His angels;
Praise Him, all His hosts (armies)!

3
Praise Him, sun and moon:
Praise Him, all stars of light!

4
Praise Him, highest heavens,
And the waters above the heavens!

5
Let them praise the name of the Lord,
For He commanded and they were created.

6
He has also established them forever and ever;
He has made a decree which shall not pass away.

7
Praise the Lord from the earth,
Sea monsters and all deeps;

8
Lightning and hail, snow and fog;
Stormy wind, fulfilling His orders;

9
Mountains and all hills;
Fruitful trees and all cedars;

10
Beasts and all cattle;
Creeping things and winged birds;

11
Kings of the earth and all people;
Princes and all judges of the earth;

12
Both young men and virgins;
Old men and children.

13
Let them praise the name of the Lord,
For His name alone is exalted and supreme;
His glory and majesty are above earth and heaven.

14
He has lifted up a horn for His people [giving them strength, prosperity, dignity, and preeminence],
Praise for all His godly ones;
For the people of Israel, a people near to Him.
Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!)

Yeah. I think I've sung that once maybe. Sounds Bible-ish. Sounds Bible-ish. What's the horn come from? Yeah. What's the deal with the horn? So do you want to start there or do you want to start with the story that this fits in? I think if we start with the horn, that can take us right into the Psalm 2 figure. So at the most basic level, a raised horn, and I did a word study on, or a phrase study on raised horn. It's two words together. Okay. So exalted and then karen is the word for horn, horn in Hebrew. And at the most basic level, a raised horn is an image of an ox's or a bull's horn lifted in victory after a battle. Braveheart.Yeah. Totally. It's kind of intense. Yeah. Seriously.Yeah. After a battle, it's probably all bloody. You just, yeah. It's gross. Yeah. You just won a battle and you lift up the horn of an animal in victory. Yeah. Or it can be the animal, the animal itself lifting its horn right after it wins a battle. Yeah. Okay. The origin of the metaphor, right? Yeah. Is a bull just trampled or gored something? Yeah. And then lifts its horn super high in the air. Yeah. Yeah. Here's a Psalm that is just using that very literal sense. Psalm 92 10 says, you have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox. So it's- So like this metaphorical horn that he has- Yeah. Is like the ox is like proud horn that he raises his head to show.Yeah. That's the exalted horn image. And there are other ways that horn is used, like the horn you blow for battle or- Is that a different word? It can be the same word. Okay. Yeah. But what's the one you just referred to? Oh, a trumpet. Is that what you said?Yeah. Yeah. Uh-huh. Which is like- And the horns of the altar. It's the same word there.
