In a brutal series of assaults on April 10–12, 2025, Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked the Zamzam and Abu Shouk displacement camps in North Darfur, resulting in over 200 civilian deaths. The RSF seized control of Zamzam camp, killing at least 56 people, and launched coordinated ground and air attacks on both camps, burning structures and targeting civilians, including medical personnel. Relief International reported that its entire medical staff at Zamzam was killed, and its clinic destroyed. The UN and humanitarian organizations condemned the violence, with over 100 feared dead, including children and aid workers. The conflict has displaced over 12 million people and is regarded by the International Rescue Committee as the "biggest humanitarian crisis ever recorded."
