The Indian government has rejected the findings of the 2021 Global Hunger Index, calling the methodology used to assess hunger levels flawed and unscientific. The index, which ranked India 101 out of 116 countries, was criticized for relying on outdated data and for giving undue weight to undernourishment and child mortality statistics. The Ministry of Women and Child Development stated that the report does not reflect the country's actual food security efforts and ignores government welfare schemes. India emphasized its commitment to improving nutrition through initiatives like POSHAN Abhiyaan and criticized the index for tarnishing its global image unfairly.
