As Jews around the world gathered to celebrate Passover — a holiday symbolising freedom — Hamas on April 12 released a new video showing signs of life from hostage Edan Alexander. The video, though undated, features Alexander saying he has been held for five hundred fifty one days, suggesting it was filmed recently. Edan, a twenty-one-year-old American citizen and lone soldier in the IDF’s Golani Brigade, was abducted on October 7, 2023, during Hamas’s brutal attack near the Gaza border. This marks the second time Hamas has released footage of Edan. Israeli officials and the hostage’s family have condemned these videos as psychological warfare. While the family requested media not to circulate the video, they approved the release of a still image, urging the public to remember Edan and the 58 other hostages still in captivity.
