John 20:1-9 1 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2 So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”
3 So Peter and the other disciple (John) started for the tomb. 4 Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, 7 as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen.

8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. 9(Up until this point, they still had not understood from Scripture that
Jesus had to rise from the dead.).
Peter walked into that tomb a discouraged, defeated, doubter.
He walked out as the most important leader in the new Christian movement.
The Fact of the Empty Tomb - How did the tomb get empty?
Three Possible Theories
1. Someone stole the body,
Who stole the body?
Suspect 1: The Romans
Suspect 2: The Jews
Suspect 3: The disciples
2. Jesus never really died.
3. Jesus really did rise from the dead.

Implications from the Empty Tomb:
1. Jesus was who said he was.
Faith occurs when the unexplainable confronts the undeniable.
Acts 4:19 “But Peter... answered them, “Whether it is right... to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge. 20 We cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.”
1 Peter 1:3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
2. Our future is secure.
4 “and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you,”(1:4)
