In May 1855, three armies of British, French, and Turks were encamped on the plains of the Crimea in southern Russia. They had left home thinking it was going to be a short war but now, 8 months after landing, they knew otherwise and they longed for home. Diaries and letters of those who fought on the front lines of the Crimean War offer a unique perspective on the war which has been said to straddle a line between that of myth and the modern world. This documentary explores just why and how it happened while showing the first-ever photographs of war taken from the front lines.
