Merlin Ambrosius, and the Kundalini Awakening.
Merlin, or Myrddin in Welsh (pronounced My-r-thin), is more than a figure of legend—he represents the profound mysteries of human potential.
Our modern image of Merlin comes from Geoffrey of Monmouth, a 12th-century cleric who immortalized the wizard in his works The Prophetiae Merlini and Historia Regum Britanniae. These texts reveal Merlin as a magician, prophet, and guide who is deeply intertwined with the destiny of King Arthur.
Merlin’s origins, like those of the bard Taliesin, are steeped in the mystical happenings and secret teachings of the esoteric traditions. In some accounts, the two are synonymous, embodying the transformative power of personal magic, self-realisation, and metamorphosis.
This magical transformation may mirror the Kundalini awakening and the great rebirth—spiritual and energetic processes described in ancient yogic traditions and secret Taoist texts.
Geoffrey of Monmouth gives Merlin the full name Merlinus Ambrosius, evoking the idea of ambrosia—the divine food of the gods from the Greek teachings. This symbolism can also be connected to the Mead of Poetry of Norse lore, the Golden Nectar of the gods, and the timeless quest for enlightenment and long life found in ancient yogic, alchemical, and magical traditions.
The Welsh eccentric Myrddin, the historical inspiration for Merlin, is known as Myrddin Wylt—“Myrddin the Wild.” His profound connection to nature, although often used in the derogatory sense, can be viewed as a deep connection to the Kundalini energy, the primal force underlying all natural growth and transformation.
The name Myrddin holds layered meanings in the Welsh dialect, highlighting both natural wisdom and spiritual awakening.
One interesting interpretation of the Welsh term Myrddin is "Maer-Dyn" (Maer = to govern/care/nourish, Dyn = humanity/Man/body), which suggests self-governance and inner mastery—the magic of human potential.
This translation can easily be linked to the ancient arts of energy work and the great awakening the transformative practice can bring.
Though hidden and monopolised through the ages, these ancient and transformative principles and practices live on in our shared myths and allegories, subtly guiding seekers on the narrow path of wisdom, dedication, and self-transformation.
In this video, we'll explore these connections (and more) in greater depth.
