Bernie Sanders and AOC Host “Fighting Oligarchy” Rally That Leaves Trump and Musk “Very Nervous”
Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) have been joining forces in a series of “Fighting Oligarchy” rallies across several states since President Trump’s inauguration. Their largest event yet took place in downtown Los Angeles, drawing an estimated 36,000 supporters—a significant milestone in their ongoing drive to champion the rights of the broader public.
A Message to Trump and Musk
During his address, Senator Sanders directly targeted President Trump and tech mogul Elon Musk with a pointed remark:
“Your presence here today is making Donald Trump and Elon Musk very nervous,” he declared to enthusiastic applause from the crowd. Sanders also recalled how Trump had previously dismissed his smaller rallies by citing lower attendance numbers, a claim he refuted by emphasizing the true scale of today’s gathering.
Calling Out Critics
Sanders did not hesitate to challenge claims suggesting that large crowds were merely the result of “paid organizers.” Recalling the previous rally in Denver, Colorado—where Musk had insinuated that many attendees were on payroll—the senator posed a direct question to the assembled crowd at LA City Hall: “Is anyone here being paid to come today?” The resounding “no” from the audience left no doubt about the genuine enthusiasm of the participants.
A Critique of Wealth and Power
A central theme of Sanders' address was the growing influence of a small group of billionaires over the economic and political life of the country. He warned that, in conjunction with a president who he accused of lacking both the understanding and respect for the U.S. Constitution, the nation was on a dangerous path toward authoritarianism. “And, Mr. Trump, we ain’t going there,” Sanders asserted firmly. His remarks underscored his long-standing criticism of policies that favor the wealthy at the expense of ordinary citizens.
A Nationwide Movement
The “Fighting Oligarchy” rallies are part of a broader tour that has already seen successful events in Las Vegas; Tempe and Tucson, Arizona; and Denver and Greeley, Colorado. Looking ahead, plans are in place to host additional rallies in Bakersfield and Folsom, California; Salt Lake City, Utah; Nampa, Idaho; and Missoula, Montana.
Conclusion
The ongoing “Fighting Oligarchy” movement is more than just a series of protests—it is a powerful expression of resistance against the consolidation of wealth and political power by a select few. Through these rallies, Bernie Sanders and AOC are not only calling attention to the imbalances in American society but are also galvanizing a nationwide movement aimed at reclaiming democratic ideals and preventing a slide into authoritarianism.
