Two men, Wyatt Clifford Fain and Payden David Guy Cosper, have been convicted of destroying 140-million-year-old sandstone formations at Lake Mead’s Redstone Dune Trail in April 2024.

A visitor filmed them toppling the ancient rocks, leading to their arrest and federal charges.

They were found guilty of injury and depredation of government property and face up to one year in prison, a $100,000 fine, or both. Sentencing is set for July 8, the San Francisco Gate has reported.

Prosecutors argued the men should have known their actions were illegal, while defense claimed ignorance of the law.
