Columbia Activist Khalil Faces Deportation | Trump Labels 6,300 Alive Immigrants “Dead” | CLRCUT

A US immigration judge has allowed deportation proceedings against Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian Columbia University student and legal U.S. resident, citing his pro-Palestine activism as grounds under a Cold War-era law. The ruling followed a memo from Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who claimed Khalil’s views threatened U.S. foreign policy. Khalil, not charged with any crime, remains jailed in Louisiana. His legal team argues this sets a dangerous precedent for free speech. In a separate case, a federal judge slammed the Trump administration for “doing nothing” to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident wrongly deported to El Salvador. The administration also faces backlash for allegedly classifying over 6,300 living immigrants as “dead” to revoke their Social Security access, pushing them toward “self-deportation.” The Trump administration insists it's following legal protocols, but critics say it’s weaponizing immigration law to silence dissent and circumvent constitutional protections.
