Lama Dawa Zangpo’s Commentary:
Here the Buddha is offering some hope and offering a light to shine on our situation. He is showing us the whole path in this one quote. When the truth is understood, craving is abandoned and the cycle of birth and death is brought to an end. This is a very powerful. Condensation of the four noble truths. So, he is showing here that there is a path which is to understand the truth, that there is a practice to be done, which is to abandon craving through insight into oneself and one's patterns and habits, and that the result of this is the end of frustration and being trapped by endlessly rising and falling, we say birth and death, grasping and hoping for things and being disappointed and frustrated and basically suffering in different ways, so, when the truth is understood, craving is actually abandoned. Through understanding the truth, one naturally lets go of craving. This leads to the desired result and the end of suffering.
