On Thursday, April 10, 2025, a devastating helicopter crash occurred over the Hudson River near Manhattan, New York City, resulting in the deaths of all six individuals on board. The victims included a family of five from Barcelona, Spain, and the pilot.

The helicopter, a Bell 206 operated by New York Helicopter Tours, departed from the Downtown Manhattan Heliport at 2:59 p.m. EDT for a sightseeing tour. Approximately 16 minutes into the flight, at around 3:15 p.m., the aircraft suffered an in-flight breakup, causing it to crash upside-down into the Hudson River near Pier 40. Witnesses reported hearing loud noises and seeing parts of the helicopter detach mid-air before it plunged into the river.

The passengers were identified as Agustín Escobar, the CEO of Siemens Spain; his wife, Mercè Camprubí Montal, an executive in the energy sector and great-granddaughter of a former FC Barcelona president; and their three children, aged 4, 5, and 11. The pilot, a 36-year-old man, also perished in the crash.

Emergency responders recovered four bodies at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries at nearby hospitals. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have initiated investigations into the cause of the accident.
