US & EU debt, The new German war machine, and Tarrifs

Very left wing commentators. However, they make a few good points.

First, after the end of the second world war, communism was very popular. Most European countries, didn't want Germany turning into a communist country or poverty inciting another war. On the other hand, Someone needed to militarily defend against the communists, and giving more weapons to Germany didn't seem like the right thing to do.

So after the second German war, the US offered to protect West Germany. And it has continued to protect Germany for many decades, at the expense of dissuading Germany and Europe from asserting their (necessary) opinions on international diplomatic matters. This reluctance to defend EU interests was partly for fear of losing: US military protection, US political peace keeping influence on individual EU member countries, and also some money spent by the US troops in Europe.

Clearly the US government is forgetting its leadership role settling squabbles between EU countries and providing military protection to the EU. The militarisation of Europe may have been unnecessary however if the US weapons manufacturers and the US military had not loved having a peer competitor. The possibility of peace can be seen by the end of the cold war, diplomacy if conducted with care could have continued the path towards peace, and reconciliation with Russia.
Thats not to say the EU doesn't need its own military, or security, or independent foreign policy.
But still: allowing the collateral damage of the re-armament of Germany, and EU's continued trend towards supporting a psuedo-communist idealism of militarised international/global socialism is a mistake everyone may live to regret. On the other hand if peace is achieved, the communist/socialist politicians currently very powerful in the EU will likely weaken politically.
Therefore the Ukraine war needs to end. And if Ukraine achieves peace by becoming a protectorate of the UN, this would be a huge benefit not only to Ukraine, but for the world.
