Shamisen is played with a large plectrum called a "bachi". "Bachi" are made from several different materials, including wood, ivory, tortoiseshell, and etc. And the tone of the shamisen varies depending on the material it is made from, and it is commonly believed that the more expensive and precious the material, the better the tone. Is that true?

In this video, we compare the same song played on two different bachi materials.

One bachi is made of ivory and the other is made of wood. I forget what the correspondence between sample 1/2 and ivory/wood is. Can you tell the difference between these tones?
