Karmelo Anthony, the 17-year old who is Accused killing a fellow teenager, will not face the death penalty if convicted, according to Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis

Anthony is being charged with first degree murder after allegedly stabbing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf on April 2nd.

Witnesses share conflicting stories about what happened that afternoon – however Anthony admitted to police that he stabbed Metcalf in the heart, and asked it it could be considered self defense shortly after the stabbing.

The incident happened at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco Texas during a track and field championship for multiple schools.

“The Supreme Court has said not only can you not seek the death penalty against someone who committed a crime when they’re 17, you can’t even get them life without parole,” Willis said, referring to the Supreme Court’s ruling on the 2005 Roper v. Simmons case.

“So it wouldn’t be something we could do even if we wanted to” Willis added.

Both Metcalf and Anthony have fundraisers that have each raised hundreds of thousands of dollars.
