Climbing roses grow best horizontally giving nearly 9 times more blooms and a lot more leaf, when growth hormone heads to full length of stem not just top. What you often want to do is find one central stem you allow to go vertically, but branch all other out horizontally like a fan. This sends growth hormone to every bud on plant and gives more flowers and a fuller looking plant.
