Unchanging Law of God
Welcome, dear friends in Christ, to another episode of Tradition and Truth, where we reflect on the Holy Scriptures and teachings of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church through the lens of the Traditional Roman Rite and the sacred wisdom of the saints.
Today is Wednesday of the Fifth Week of Lent, also known in the 1962 Roman Missal as Wednesday of Passion Week. We are drawing ever closer to the solemn days of Holy Week. The Church now begins to focus intensely on the suffering and divinity of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Saints of the Day (April 9, 2025)
According to the traditional Roman calendar, today we commemorate:
• St. Mary Cleophas – one of the "Three Marys" at the foot of the Cross and at the tomb on Easter morning. A woman of deep faith and fidelity to Christ in His Passion.
• St. Demetrius (optional commemoration) – a courageous martyr who suffered under the Roman Emperor Diocletian.
These saints remind us of steadfastness — a perfect theme as we draw close to the Passion.

Epistle Reflection – Leviticus 19:1-2, 11-19, 25
“Be ye holy, because I the Lord your God am holy.” (Lev. 19:2)
God speaks to Moses and, through him, to all of Israel — commanding not only external observance but internal holiness. The commands are practical: do not steal, lie, or defraud; judge with justice; love your neighbor.
From a Traditional Catholic perspective, these are not "Old Testament relics" — they are part of God's eternal moral law, binding still today. This call to holiness is renewed in Christ who said: “Be ye therefore perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” (Matt. 5:48)
The Lenten season is our time to re-align with this call — to seek holiness of life, especially in the little things: honesty, charity, purity, and justice in our daily interactions.
“The Devil fears hearts on fire with love of God.” — St. Catherine of Siena

Gospel Reflection – John 10:22-38
“I and the Father are one.” (John 10:30)
Jesus is walking in the temple on the Feast of the Dedication what we call Hanukkah. The Jews demand clarity: “If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.”
But Our Lord points not only to His words but to His works: the miracles, the healings — all bear witness to His divinity. He then speaks those thunderous words: “I and the Father are one.” The crowd picks up stones — not because they didn’t understand Him, but because they did.
This Gospel highlights two essential truths:
1. The Divinity of Christ – foundational to our Faith
2. The resistance of the world to Truth
Just as then, so now: many reject Christ not for lack of evidence, but because they reject His authority over their lives.
🕯️ “The world offers you comfort. But you were not made for comfort. You were made for greatness.” — Pope Benedict XVI
✝️ “Christ did not come to explain away suffering or remove it. He came to fill it with His presence.” — St. John Paul II

💡 Theme of the Day: Holiness Amid Rejection
Today's theme could be summed up in three words: Holiness amid rejection.
Christ was rejected for speaking the truth. We too will face resistance when we live according to God’s law.
But remember this:
🛡️ “If the world hates you, know that it has hated Me before you.” — John 15:18
To walk with Christ during Passiontide means to accept some measure of rejection — from the world, from comfort, even from ourselves. But in doing so, we gain everything.

⛪ Meditation Prompt:
Take a moment today to meditate on two questions:
1. Have I grown lukewarm in my pursuit of holiness?
2. Do I truly recognize Jesus as God in my daily life, even when it costs me comfort or reputation?
Ask Our Lady of Sorrows to help you walk with her Son to Calvary.

🙏 Conclusionary Prayer
Let us now pray:
O Lord Jesus Christ, You who revealed Your divine nature and yet were rejected, grant us the courage to stand with You in truth and charity. Make us holy, as the Father is holy. Help us to follow Your commandments, even when the world mocks us.
Through the intercession of St. Mary Cleophas, who stood by Your Cross, and all the holy martyrs who bore witness to You, strengthen us in these final days of Lent. May we never reject You, but always adore You — truly present in the Most Blessed Sacrament.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord.
Amen.
Thank you for joining us on Tradition and Truth. May you be blessed this Passiontide with deeper faith, true repentance, and unshakable hope in the mercy of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Until next time stay close to Christ, and closer still to His Cross.
