'Manufactured Consent'

Have you heard of that phrase before?

It was coined by an #American #journalist in 1922 called #WalterLippmann and it's about how public opinion can be swayed and #manipulated through #media outlets, #newspapers #movies, #TV shows, and the government by perpetuating fear or constructing a #narrative of truth that is anything but the truth and convincing people enough that this #untruth is #truth giving people a false sense of fear giving people a false sense of #hopevgiving people the #false perception of their #voice counts and matters and causes #influence for the government to take daction when really it's the government that manufactured this and we are giving consent for them to do something that ultimately restricts our freedoms restricts our freedom of speech our freedom of reach in our speech gives the government more powers because we are asking for them to have more powers to protect us from the perpetual messages that they are giving us that are causing us #fear #anxiety #uncertainty and #doubt that's #manufacturedconsent Be #critical of the information you're being given make sure that you verify the things that are being said seek out of information look at other sources #resources understand how people can be and are #manipulated there's a lot of narratives around the four part series 'Adolescence' at the moment and there's a lot of #debate going around about the 'protection' of young men online and I'm hearing in the #bbc #news today about how these young men need to be protected from being 'radicalised' onlinewhat that ultimately means is yes that's true in some cases but it doesn't mean that we can give blanket #consent that's been #manufactured for them #restrict our access to #social #media #socialmedia platforms where we can #access all the information to make an #informed #choice for ourselves.

We're giving #consent to the government
to restrict our access to information
online in the name of #protecting #young #men from being #radicalised online.

Because of the impact adolescence has
had on us and an #emotional impact and it's using the #public #debate and #discourse around #adolescence as a way to bring in a blanket ban or #regulation on #access #information
#online and we're cheering the government on to protect these #young #boys

Because of course we want to protect
#children so we're giving this #consent not only to #protect them out also to #restrict our freedom of #speech and our #freedom of reach wake up, understand the game the manipulation just think about the
#Milgram #experiment and how we listen to people of #authority and the extent to which we listen to them that we can ultimateiy cause people real #harm and injury because 'they people of #authority are demanding that
we do it so be #independent, be awake stay #curious, be critical don't #trust, #verify. Seek out #truth, different #perspectives we can #protect our own #children we have the #power to understand
without demanding the #government do
something and everything for us.

Don't let them manipulate our minds don't let them #manipulate and #restrict the #consent we give them to take away our own #freedom.
