Exponents, Mantissas, Logarithms, Scientific Notation, Better Explanation Than Natural e: 12

Asking the Baker's Man to bake you a cake as fast as he can,
probably isn't helped by a discussion of exponents, mantissas,
logarithms, and scientific notation, or vice-versa.

There are two competing number bases for logarithmic domain
computations: base 10.0 and 'e', or 2.71828....

Scientific notation is a methodology for expressing very very
large, or very very small real (non-integer) numbers.

It also uses the concept of exponents and mantissas to
describe these wide ranging numbers.
