The Birth and Miracles of Isa (Jesus) (AS)
Brothers, sisters, friends and elders, Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh.
We welcome you to the Islamic informative series episode No 21 on healing and events from the Holly Quran, in this video we will describe, The Birth and Miracles of Isa (AS)
The story of Isa (AS), known as Jesus in Christianity, is one of the most remarkable and miraculous tales in the Qur’an. His birth to Maryam (AS) was extraordinary, marked by divine intervention and the fulfillment of Allah's will. Isa (AS) is not only regarded as one of the five great prophets in Islam but also as a symbol of mercy, miracles, and righteousness. His life and mission serve as a testament to Allah's power to create and guide, demonstrating that He is the ultimate source of all things, whether in the creation of the universe or in the birth of a prophet. This story of Isa (AS) unfolds in the Qur'an in a way that highlights his miraculous birth, his role as a prophet, and the miracles he performed, all of which attest to Allah’s absolute power and wisdom.
The story of Isa's miraculous birth begins with his mother, Maryam (AS), a woman of exceptional piety and virtue. As mentioned earlier, Maryam was chosen by Allah and raised in the temple under the care of Prophet Zakariya (AS). She lived a life of dedication to worship and submission to the will of Allah. One day, while in her private chamber, she was visited by an angel in the form of a man. This angel, who was none other than Jibril (Gabriel), gave her the startling news that she would conceive a son, despite being a virgin. The Qur'an recounts this moment in Surah Maryam (19:19-21): **“He said, ‘I am only the messenger of your Lord to give you [the news of] a pure boy. She said, ‘How can I have a boy while no man has touched me?’ He said, ‘Thus said your Lord; it is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign for the people and a mercy from Us. And it is a matter already decreed.’”**
The announcement was both shocking and miraculous. Maryam’s question reflected her astonishment, for she knew that such a thing was impossible by the natural order of things. However, the angel’s response made it clear that this would be a divine miracle. Allah, who has power over all things, would bring this child into existence without the intervention of a human father. This was not only a test for Maryam but also a sign to the world of Allah’s limitless power and His ability to bring about miracles according to His will. The conception of Isa (AS) was a divine decree, and the child would be a mercy to all people.
As prophesied, Maryam conceived Isa (AS), and she withdrew to a remote place away from her community to give birth. The birth of Isa was accompanied by intense hardship, and Maryam, in her solitude, endured the pain of childbirth. The Qur’an beautifully describes the moment when Maryam was in labor: **“And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She said, ‘Oh, I wish I had died before this and was in oblivion, forgotten.’”** (Qur’an, 19:23). This verse shows Maryam’s distress during the labor, as she was alone and frightened by the magnitude of the event.
However, Allah’s mercy and support were with her during this trying moment. When Maryam was in her darkest moment, alone and in pain, Allah spoke to her, reassuring her. The Qur'an tells us that the angel Jibril instructed Maryam to shake the trunk of the palm tree, from which fresh dates would fall to nourish her. Additionally, a stream of water flowed at her feet to quench her thirst. Allah provided for her in her moment of need, offering her comfort and sustenance during the birth.
Isa (AS) was born as a result of this divine intervention, and his birth was unlike any other. The fact that a child was born without a father was a miraculous sign, and it demonstrated Allah’s power to defy the laws of nature. Isa (AS) was a special child, chosen by Allah to bring a message of truth and guidance to the people of Israel.
As Isa (AS) grew, it became clear that he was no ordinary child. From an early age, Isa (AS) exhibited extraordinary qualities, and it was evident to those around him that he was a prophet chosen by Allah. The Qur'an recounts some of the miracles Isa performed during his life, each of which attests to his prophetic mission and divine support.
One of the most significant miracles that Isa (AS) performed was healing the sick. The Qur’an mentions that Isa (AS) could cure those who were blind and leprous, healing them by Allah’s will. This is mentioned in Surah Al-Imran (3:49), where Allah says: **“And [make him] a messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], ‘Indeed, I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. I design for you from clay [the form] of a bird, then I breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by Allah’s permission. And I heal the blind and the leper, and I give life to the dead by Allah’s permission…”** This verse highlights the miraculous power of Isa (AS), as he performed these acts not by his own ability but through Allah’s permission and power.
In addition to healing the sick, Isa (AS) was also able to raise the dead to life. The Qur’an mentions that he revived those who had passed away, demonstrating his extraordinary connection to Allah and his ability to perform miracles. The power of these miracles was a clear sign that Isa (AS) was sent by Allah to guide the people, calling them to monotheism, righteousness, and submission to the One true God.
Furthermore, Isa (AS) was able to perform the miracle of speaking in the cradle. The Qur’an recounts that when Maryam brought her newborn son to her people, who accused her of immorality, Isa (AS) miraculously spoke to defend his mother. He said: **“Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet. And He has made me blessed wherever I am and has enjoined upon me prayer and zakah as long as I remain alive”** (Qur’an, 19:30-31). This moment of speaking as a newborn demonstrated Isa’s special status as a prophet and signified that he was divinely chosen to fulfill an important mission.
Isa (AS) was sent to the Children of Israel with the message of monotheism and righteousness. He was tasked with calling his people back to the worship of Allah alone, as they had strayed from the true path. His message focused on justice, compassion, and submission to the will of Allah. Isa (AS) was sent as a mercy to the people, calling them to repent from their sinful ways and to believe in the oneness of Allah. He preached about the coming of a final prophet, who would complete the message of truth—this final prophet being Muhammad (SAW).
Despite the miracles and signs he performed, many of the people rejected Isa (AS) and refused to believe in him. Some of the religious leaders at the time saw him as a threat to their authority and resisted his message. Isa (AS) faced great opposition, but he remained steadfast in his mission to guide his people to the truth.
The Qur’an tells us that Isa (AS) was not crucified, as the people believed, but rather, Allah raised him up to Himself. Allah says in Surah An-Nisa (4:157-158): **“And [the disbelievers] said, ‘Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Isa, the son of Maryam, the messenger of Allah.’ But they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him for certain. Rather, Allah raised him to Himself. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise.”**
Isa (AS) remains alive in the presence of Allah, awaiting his return to earth as a sign of the end times. His return will herald the defeat of falsehood and the establishment of justice, where he will break the cross, kill the swine, and restore true monotheism.
The story of Isa (AS) is one of the most significant and miraculous narratives in the Qur’an. His miraculous birth to Maryam (AS), his many miracles, his message of monotheism, and his ascension to the heavens all serve as powerful reminders of Allah's omnipotence and mercy. Isa (AS) is not only a prophet in Islam but also a symbol of divine grace, showing that Allah's will can manifest in the most unexpected and miraculous ways. His life and teachings continue to inspire millions around the world, guiding them towards a path of righteousness and devotion to Allah.
With this, we seek your permission until tomorrow and pray to Allah Almighty to grant us the ability to follow the injunctions of the Quran and the Prophetic Hadith, Amen
Allah Hafiz.
