The keffiyeh is a cultural symbol, not a symbol of hate

A father was removed from the JCC in Vaughan, Ontario, during his son’s basketball game for wearing a keffiyeh, labeled ‘offensive’ by staff.

When he refused to remove it, he was locked out, and his son was left inside. Police were called, and he was arrested for questioning his detention.

The keffiyeh is a cultural symbol, not a symbol of hate. To label it as antisemitic is false and dangerous. This incident exemplifies anti-Palestinian racism.

We are not criminals. We are not antisemitic. We are being targeted.
