Israel Left REELING After Egypt's Shock Move!
Right, so if Israel think they can get away with underhanded and deceitful claims and accusations designed to sway public opinion against another country, then they are barking up the wrong tree once again, when the nation on the receiving end of their latest batch of lies is Egypt.
Egypt has recently reinforced its border on the other side of Gaza’s southern border, which had Israel screaming at the time about Israel violating the Camp David Peace Accords by doing so, the peace treaty that exists between Egypt and Israel that ended their wars with each other in 1979, but now they are apparently claiming further reinforcement and demanding something be done about Egypt’s increasing warmongering as they see it.
The thing is, there’s no evidence at all that Egypt has further increased its presence on the other side of the Gaza-Egypt border and it is incredibly hypocritical of Israel to complain of threatening the Camp David Accords anyway, since their night on year long occupation of the Philadelphi Corridor, the buffer zone between Gaza and Egypt forbidden to Israel has been the single most serious and ongoing violation of those peace accords, a move that Egypt has tolerated despite that, in the name of negotiation and mediation to bring about a permanent ceasefire and end to Israels atrocities in Gaza.
Well with these latest accusations, the prospect of peace grows ever more distant and Egyptian patience is fraying as Israel’s Egyptian attacks appear designed with a sinister purpose behind them.
Right, so the Camp David Accords of 1978, which were implemented the following year have long been a cornerstone of Middle East stability, ensuring peace between Egypt and Israel for over four decades now a pretty long time and don’t I know it, because I popped into the world in the same year. Yet today, Israel is engaging in a brazen campaign of hypocrisy, with regards to this, weaponising it, accusing Egypt of violating that treaty by maintaining troops as they are in the Sinai Desert, the Egyptian side of the gaza border as that is, while simultaneously occupying as they do, the Philadelphi Corridor in direct breach of the same agreement. Worse still, Israel has now annexed the entirety of Rafah, or what is left of Rafah, it has basically been wiped from the map now, a 3,500 year old city wiped away by a 77 year old occupying regime, now constructing a new militarised buffer zone between rafah and the rest of Gaza, carving the Strip up, Israel now occupying some 50% of the Strip with the entire population being squeezed into a smaller and smaller area, all further entrenching its illegal presence.
At the same time, Egypt has of course been a key mediator in proposing new ceasefire plans for Gaza—plans that Hamas has accepted, but Israel has rejected and they’ve got a new one as it happens. But instead of engaging in good-faith diplomacy, Israel is escalating tensions instead, they’ve got a plan of their own perhaps, making false accusations against Egypt, and attempting to drive a wedge between Cairo and Washington. So the reality of the situation is clear, or would be if so many media outlets weren’t dancing to Israel’s tune and trying somehow to make this all Egypt’s fault: Israel is the primary violator of the Camp David Accords, not Egypt and the only reason those Accords still hold is because Egypt have deemed it so, but those troops that have been positioned in the Sinai are a warning that their patience over such matters is not indefinite. Israel’s occupation of the Philadelphi Corridor and its aggressive annexation of Rafah, all as part of its ongoing aggression in Gaza pose a far greater threat to regional stability than Egypt’s defensive troop movements in the Sinai.
So lets start with Israel’s accusations here. Under the 1979 Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty, the Sinai was demilitarised, with strict limitations on Egyptian military presence. However, exceptions do exist.
For example, Egypt is allowed to deploy forces in the Sinai to combat terrorism, including in Zone C of the Sinai, which borders Israel, particularly against ISIS and ISIS-affiliated groups that have previously attacked Egyptian troops and who had found refuge in the Sinai and the treaty has always included provisions for temporary adjustments based on mutual security needs.
Despite this, Israel has falsely claimed that Egypt is violating the treaty by reinforcing its positions in Sinai, which by and large should be demilitarised. Now, the claims come that on top of troops that have been moved to shore up Egypt’s border with Gaza back in January, that even more have been moved there now. It’s their border, its in defiance of a treaty they hold with another nation sure, but when that other nation is Israel, how far would you trust them given what they are doing in Gaza? The fear Egypt has for a long time had has always been the expulsion of the Gazan people into the Sinai desert by Israel and with Trump saying to Egypt and Jordan, you’re going to take them, and with both sharing borders with Israel, who can blame them for thinking Israel figure they could get away with forcing the matter?
Therefore I think it is pretty hard to argue against Egypt’s legitimate security concerns, given the instability in Gaza and of course Egypt aren’t at all the first of the two nations to actually violate those Peace Accords are they? Israel have been doing that for the past year now and are still doing it whilst making these same accusations against Egypt, aided and abetted by pliant media and bought and paid for politician, namely, its occupation of the Philadelphi Corridor, that buffer zone that exists along the Gaza Egypt border.
Exactly like the Sinai peninsula, the Philadelphi Corridor was designated under the Camp David Accords as a demilitarised area as well. Yet, in early 2024, Israel illegally seized control of the corridor, claiming it was necessary to prevent arms smuggling, yet have continued to maintain illegal armed control of it since.
This is a blatant breach of the treaty, yet Israel has of course faced no consequences from the US or Western allies, nor from Egypt who have tolerated it for the sake of negotiation and peace. Now matters have worsened as Israel falsely accuse Egypt of stoking tensions since Israel has now annexed all of what was once Rafah, forcibly displacing everyone living there and have set about building a new militarised corridor between Rafah and Khan Younis, further cutting off Gaza from Egypt and entrenching Israeli control over the Philadelphi Corridor and much of Gaza beyond.
So we have a situation now where Israel is digging in and remaining set to occupy a demilitarised zone it does not belong in, violating peace accords with Egypt, whist accusing Egypt of actually doing that very same thing. Crying victim whilst being guilty of the very same action, it is Israel 101, plus by making accusations such as these about a mediating and negotiating presence, you undermine relations between the two states and this might be intentional on Israel’s part, especially with the media propaganda campaign with it, because if they can sway public opinion against Egypt as well, it could allow Netanyahu, bent on ethnic cleansing as he is, because it is what his far right coalition partners want and what Donald Trump continues to advocate for, and win him support to do what Egypt fears most and that is to flood the Sinai with the people of Gaza.
So Israel’s presence in the Philadelphi Corridor is becoming more intolerable, as negotiations get nowhere all the while undermining Egypt’s control over its own territory.
Having brought Trump into the conversation here now though, it’d be remiss of me to not cover the effect all of this could have on US-Egyptian ties, or effects that would be more meaningful if the US weren’t led by a despotic orange man baby, because Israel’a sactions are also going to strain Egyptian-US ties, which I’d be confident would be a lot stronger with anyone other than Trump.
Pro-Israeli media outlets have pushed narratives suggesting that Egypt’s new plan for a ceasefire and for peace is amounts to co-operating with Hamas, since they have been accused of smuggling weapons across the border and Hamas have already agreed to their latest plans all whilst
Violating those peace treaties which Israel started and have done so for far longer.
It isn’t really in the US’s interest to get on the wrong side of Egypt though and this was somewhat made clear even by Trump when he cut all international aid to all countries except for Israel and Egypt.
The US relies on Egypt for regional stability and solid efficient trade links, since Egypt control the Suez Canal, it relies on Egypt’s actions, notably in the Sinai for counterterrorism purposes and of course their role in mediation in Gaza ceasefires, not least coming up with ceasefire plans that have won widespread support, just not from Israel or the US who are both bent on forced displacement of the Gazan people which Egypt will not support.
So while Israel continues its assault on Rafah, Egypt has proposed multiple ceasefire plans, including one recently accepted by Hamas, an excerpt on this as reported by Resistance News Network reading:
‘The terms of the proposal are largely intermediate between the two previous proposals [referring to the previous Egyptian proposal and US proposal by Steve Witkoff]: the release of 9 living captives, including the American soldier, three bodies of captives, and the release of 300 Palestinian prisoners (150 with life sentences), release of 2,220 Gazan detainees, and increasing the number of days of the truce to 70 days. This includes negotiations on the transition to Phase 2 negotiations (permanent ceasefire and withdrawal), opening of crossings, and information on all remaining captives.
"Israel" has refused to enter Phase 2 of negotiations, and in its counteroffer, stipulated that negotiations wouldn't begin until after the temporary ceasefire period, while Hamas insisted that the negotiations conclude during the period (previously offered as 40 or 50 days).
Currently, French President Macron is meeting with Egyptian and Jordanian leaders Sisi and Abdullah, while Trump and Netanyahu are meeting in Washington. Macron stated that the Palestinian Authority must lead Gaza and opposed the displacement of Gazans. Additionally, the UAE and zionist foreign ministers met yesterday.
On Saturday, a delegation from Fatah (including Jibril Rajoub and ex-PM Mohammed Shtayyeh) made a surprise visit to Egypt, where Egypt affirmed its full support for the Palestinian Authority and rejected displacement plans. They discussed empowering the PA and fortifying Palestinian unity.
Rajoub revealed that Fatah presented a comprehensive plan for reconciliation with Hamas, the details of which were published by Sky News yesterday (close reconciliation, adopting popular resistance, accept PLO, 1967 borders, unifying Gaza and West Bank governance). With Hamas' new meeting in Egypt, they are expected to discuss both the Egyptian ceasefire proposal and the Fatah proposal for reconciliation.’
Where moves to reconcile between Palestinian Authority controlled Fatah and Hamas have been mooted positively by both sides in the name of ending the genocide in Gaza and reconciling the Palestinian territory as a single entity rather than territories as it currently is referred to is a good sign, Israel are once again making demands that are impossible to agree to. Why have a ceasefire and not use that time to negotiate? Easy, Israel can never and will never agree to Phase 2, so so you are negotiating with a dishonest and unwilling participant, who is taking part in talks for show and no intent to shift or compromise.
Where do you go from there in which case?
If Israel continues its illegal occupation of the Philadelphi Corridor, Egypt may end up having no choice but to respond militarily, especially if forced displacement of Gazans into the Sinai happens and already, tensions are rising:
Egyptian journalists and politicians have condemned Israeli provocations and the accusations and hypocrisy being levelled at them and a 47 year old Peace Treaty risks being abandoned.
An Egyptian-Israeli conflict would be catastrophic, yet Israel seems willing to risk it for the sake of keeping Netanyahu in power and the genocide of Gaza going.
Israel’s accusations against Egypt are not just false, they are dangerously hypocritical. While Egypt is reinforcing its borders for legitimate security reasons, Israel is illegally occupying the Philadelphi Corridor, annexing Rafah and constructing new buffer zones, rejecting ceasefire plans already accepted by Hamas which include them losing power willingly all adding up to the real threat to the Camp David Accords being Israel’s expansionism first and foremost.
It isn’t just in Gaza that Israel is expanding right now of course though, the same is happening in Syria and again it is corridor building that is underway, a massive corridor, a land bridge to connect Israel to US and Kurdish controlled areas in Syria’s north and potentially access to Syria’s oilfields at that. Think it fanciful? It’s already begun. Israel has been seizing territory exactly where it has to be, so get all the details of that underreported scandal in this video recommendation here as your suggested next watch.
