Alex Schadenberg is the founder and executive director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition of Canada, an organization that has worked for decades to raise awareness and push back on Canada’s expanding medical assistance in dying (MAiD) policies. With a focus on advocacy, education, and policy engagement, Alex brings a unique and longstanding perspective to a conversation that has become increasingly urgent in Canada.

In this episode of In Lay Terms, Alex joins us to discuss the evolution of Canada’s euthanasia laws, the ethical and societal questions they raise, and what he’s learned through years of working with vulnerable individuals at the end of life. Drawing on his direct experience, he shares why he believes that human connection and in-person support are essential—especially for those facing difficult choices under pressure.

Topics Covered:
🔹 The history and growth of euthanasia policy in Canada
🔹 Concerns around vulnerable populations and end-of-life decisions
🔹 The role of advocacy in shaping public understanding and law
🔹 Why human connection matters more than ever
🔹 What Canadians should consider as this issue evolves

Whether or not you agree with Alex’s position, this conversation offers a valuable look into how Canada’s policies are being shaped—and what that means for individuals and society.
