The Pastor Derek Reimer saga has been ongoing for over two years. In January, I shared that Derek Reimer, a courageous Pastor from Alberta was sentenced to 1 year house arrest and 2 years probation for protesting Drag Queen story events at Calgary Public Libraries that were geared to children ages 6-8 years old. At a different trial around the same time, he was found not-guilty of other criminal charges stemming from similar protests. The government decided to appeal that not-guilty verdict, and that appeal is being heard this Thursday. Later this week I will be able to release my latest interview with Pastor Derek and his lawyer, discussing these charges and this trial.

As you know, Pastor Derek made national news for his protests at multiple libraries. At one event, where he was peacefully protesting he was grabbed by other attendees and physically thrown out of the event. None of these people were charged with assaulting Derek. For this and other protests, he was arrested and re-arrested 3 times in 5 weeks, ultimately spending 43 days in jail. Derek has received multiple criminal charges and by-law tickets totaling thousands of dollars.

Derek had several trials dealing with his charges, and was in fact found not-guilty (acquitted) on the charges stemming from the dramatic incident where he was thrown from the event, described above. The government, however is appealing this decision by the court, which is being heard this Thursday. (yes, they can do that). It's not fair he was found not-guilty once, and has to defend himself again.
